According to recent reports, Sony intends to shake up the Xperia series next month with a new flagship model. For all intents and purposes, it seems that Sony will be returning to the Xperia 1 rather than the smaller Xperia 5. However, there are now suggestions that Sony may hold off from replacing the Xperia 10 VI (curr. $389.99 on Amazon) until the autumn.
While Sony has not hinted at anything publicly yet, Sumaho Digest has inferred a few potential camera upgrades from leaked images that could separate the Xperia 1 VII from last year's model. For context, a recent FCC listing indicated that the Xperia 1 VII will be as tall as the Xperia 1 VI with 0.5 mm added in width and 0.2 mm in thickness.
As a result, it is evident that the Xperia 1 VII has a longer camera housing than its predecessor. Examining each housing closely appears to reveal that the Xperia 1 VII contains improved telephoto optics with a larger periscope lens than the Xperia 1 VI. On top of that, leaked images suggest that Sony may have refined its ultra-wide-angle camera package between generations too. Currently, other rumoured upgrades include a Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Elite chipset, which should bring healthy performance and power efficiency improvements in its own right.
