The Sony Xperia 1 VII will be officially revealed on May 13 but ahead of the launch, some Japanese marketing images have reportedly leaked, hinting at some of the specifications. The next flagship from Sony is expected to come in three colors and have a similar design to the previous generation, bringing back the flat display, thicker bezels, and audio jack.
The leaked marketing images were acquired by Android Headlines and they show some of the specifications for the soon to be launched Xperia 1 VII. The triple camera setup with Zeiss collaboration will return, and this time, the ultrawide-angle lens has a sensor that is 2.1 times larger than the previous generation. For reference, the Xperia 1 VI (Buy on Amazon) has a 12 MP ultrawide shooter with a 1/2.5-inch sensor. The audio jack will return as well and the phone will support Hi-Res Audio in both wired and wireless modes, along with LDAC and DSEE Ultimate.
Speaking of audio, the dual front facing stereo speakers have been upgraded as well with 10% improved mids compared to the previous generation. All this will be backed by a 5,000 mAh battery that is said to last two days. The Xperia 1 VI also packs a 5,000 mAh battery with 30W wired and 15W wireless charging support so the Xperia 1 VII can be expected to have at least that, if not better.
As for the design, the phone is expected to come in three colors, black, green, and purple. All the buttons, including volume, power, and the camera button are located on the right side with a clean left side, just like the previous generation. Sony has already confirmed that the Xperia 1 VII will be powered by its Alpha camera series and Walkman.
The marketing images also show that the upcoming phone will support four OS updates and six years of security updates. In comparison, the Xperia 1 VI is getting three OS updates and four years of security updates so this comes as a welcome improvement.
