There is no official word yet from Sony that it will soon be replacing the Xperia 1 VI (curr. $1,039 on Amazon). Nonetheless, there is an increasing amount of evidence that is the case. For instance, the rumoured Xperia 1 VII was recently seen in leaked photos before seemingly turning up at the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) in the US.
Now, the same device looks to have taken its first trip through Geekbench's single-core and multi-core benchmarks. Bearing the model number XQ-FS54, the device unsurprisingly runs Android 15, which Sony has been busy bringing to its smartphones in recent months. Also, the benchmark listing appears to confirm the inclusion of a Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Elite chipset going off the CPU identifier and clusters shown.
Unfortunately, it looks as though Sony has resigned to equipping its flagship with 12 GB of RAM for another generation. Nonetheless, the switch from the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 to the Snapdragon 8 Elite on its own helps the Xperia 1 VII outperform its predecessor by about 30% in Geekbench's single-core and multi-core benchmarks. Incidentally, scores of 2,967 and 9,017 also sees the Xperia 1 VII edging out recent devices like the Poco F7 Ultra, Find N5 and the Realme GT7 Pro. The Xperia 1 VII falls short of other current generation flagships like the OnePlus 13, Galaxy S25 Ultra and Xiaomi 15 Ultra at this early stage, though.
