Sony could be set to debut its main flagship smartphone for the year, the Xperia 1 VII, shortly. The Snapdragon 8 Elite-powered phone is tipped to launch this month in select markets, but could take a few more months to hit the global market.
According to a new report by Sumaho Digest, the Xperia 1 VII is scheduled to launch in Japan on May 15. That corroborates prior reports from Vietnamese sources. Supposedly, the Xperia 1 VII will go on sale in Sony's home market immediately but will not be available on the global market till July. That's also consistent with a previous leak which claimed the phone would only arrive in SEA countries by July.
A global launch here means a European release, to be exact, with the Xperia 1 VII expected to be widely available across Europe. A US release remains uncertain, however, although the fact that the flagship was spotted at the FCC's website weeks ago bodes well for expectant fans in the US.
It's worth pointing out that a May 15 release in Japan is far from concrete at this point, especially since it coincides quite curiously with the launch date of last year's Sony Xperia 1 VI. That said, we expect the flagship phone to debut sometime next week either way, and it could do so alongside Sony's WH-1000XM6 headphones.
