Garmin Forerunner 265 and Forerunner 965 receive new Beta v4.19

Garmin has pushed Public Beta Version 4.19 to eligible Forerunner 265 and Forerunner 965 smartwatches. The new software contains bug fixes to resolve problems with the Assistance feature and random shutdowns. However, some users have reported issues with installing the latest update.

Garmin has released Public Beta Version 4.19 for the Forerunner 265 and Forerunner 965 smartwatches. The new software brings two bug fixes to the wearables. Firstly, an issue which could cause the device to reset randomly has been resolved. Secondly, Garmin has fixed a problem with Assistance. This safety feature can automatically trigger an alert to your chosen emergency contacts, including your name and location, if possible.

According to the changelog, in some cases, Assistance could be disrupted by a Connect IQ app; the company has not provided the name of the app in question. Garmin notes that v4.19 is a Release Candidate, meaning the same software will be pushed live as a public update to all Forerunner 265 and Forerunner 965 watches, assuming no major bugs are found in this Beta launch.

However, some owners of the Forerunner 965 have reported post-install errors. One user notes that they have been unable to install the update, while others installed the update but with a problem surrounding a sub-component. It appears that, compared to the previous update, v4.17, Wi-Fi software must be updated to v28.01 and ANT software to v28.01. Garmin provides information on what to do if your watch freezes or crashes here. The company has confirmed that the update is already available to all eligible smartwatches. Go to Main menu > Settings > System > Software Update > Check For Updates to download the update.
