Garmin has unveiled the Approach S70, one of several smartwatches that the company is expected to announce within the next few weeks. For reference, the company has also prepared the Epix 2 Pro series, as well as various Fenix 7 Pro, Fenix 7S Pro and Fenix 7X Pro smartwatches. While Garmin markets the Approach S70 as a golf-focused successor to the Approach S62, it can still be used as a regular smartwatch.
Accordingly, the Approach S70 features an AMOLED display with an always-on display mode, is 5 ATM water resistant and has 32 GB of storage. Available in 42 mm and 47 mm sizes, the Approach S70 also has a ceramic bezel, Corning Gorilla Glass 3 protecting its display and up to 16 days of battery life if you opt for the 47 mm edition. By contrast, the 42 mm edition delivers up to 10 days of battery life in smartwatch mode or 15 hours with GPS activated.
Additionally, the Approach S70 has 43,000 pre-loaded golf courses, an improved virtual caddie tool that contains shot dispersion data and a PlaysLike Distance feature for reading shots more accurately. According to Garmin, the latter relies on a new barometer, which joins Garmin's usual set of heart rate, GPS and Pulse Ox sensors, among others. The Approach S70 starts at US$649.99 and comes in two colour options as a 42 mm smartwatch. Alternatively, Garmin offers the 47 mm variant for US$699.99 but only in black.
