Xiaomi Redmi Book 14 launches with unexpectedly outdated Intel processors
Xiaomi has started selling the Redmi Book 14 in China, where it is available in four configurations. Surprisingly, Xiaomi has opted for Intel Alder Lake-H processors, despite newer Raptor Lake-H and AMD Ryzen 7040 processors now being available. According to the company's website, the Redmi Book 14 is configurable with the Core i5-12500H or the Core i7-12700H, 12-core and 14-core processors, respectively.
Additionally, the Redmi Book 14 features a 2.8K (2,880 x 1,800) display with a 16:10 aspect ratio, a 1,500:1 contrast ratio and 100% sRGB colour space coverage. Also, the 14-inch 'Super Retina' display peaks at a rather lowly 300 nits, which it modulates with DC dimming. A 56 Wh battery powers the high-resolution display, which provides a 120 Hz refresh rate too.
For reference, the Redmi Book 14 weighs roughly 1.37 kg and measures 312 x 220 x 15.9 mm. While it remains to be seen whether Xiaomi will sell the Redmi Book 14 globally, the company has announced pricing in China, where it starts at CNY 4,599 (~US$652) with a Core i5-12500H, albeit with a launch discount that takes it to CNY 3,699 (~US$525). Alternatively, the Redmi Book 14 sells for CNY 5,599 (~US$794) with a Core i7-12700H, or CNY 4,799 (~US$681) at its launch discount. Both variants are available in silver and grey finishes, all with 16 GB of LPDDR5 RAM and 512 GB of PCIe 4.0 storage.
