Casio debuts five colorful watches with transparent dials inspired by a 1970s Seiko classic

Casio’s new MTP collection is officially here after being shown off in a leak late last month, and it’s here to prove that affordable watches don’t have to look boring. With a design that takes cues from the 1970-era Seiko Time Sonar, the new Casio MTP-E740 is one of the more fun watches to come out from Casio’s August drop.
The collection is now up on Casio's international website and consists of five models: bright orange MTP-E740-4AV, teal MTP-E740-3AV, bright blue MTP-E740-2A2V, navy blue MTP-E740-2A1V, and brown MTP-E740-1AV. The main attraction here is the translucent dial, which lets you peek at the day and date wheels underneath. It's what separates the new lineup from Casio's standard day-date offerings that hide the calendar mechanism. Here, Casio turns it into part of the design, giving the watches a playful layered look that's rarely seen on entry-level offerings. It's a neat throwback to Seiko's vintage Time Sonar models.
The day wheel has options for both English and Spanish, while a framed date window sits at 3 o'clock. The rest of the package is a familiar story, with the watch featuring a three-hand analog display, applied baton hour markers, and a 39.8mm stainless steel case and bracelet with a three-fold clasp.
The watch also boasts 50 meters of water resistance, mineral glass, and a Casio 5339 quartz movement rated to within ±20 seconds per month. Power comes from an SR920SW battery that's expected to last around three years.
As mentioned earlier, all five Casio MTP-E740 models are now listed on Casio International, which at the very least confirms the lineup will see a global release. Casio has yet to confirm pricing and global availability, but we expect the new watches to start rolling out across various markets in the coming weeks.
