Seiko unveils a stunning Presage Classic limited edition inspired by Japanese black pine bonsai

From the Seiko 5 Sports x Honda Motocompo and Popeye edition to the Edo Purple 145th anniversary collection, there have been quite a few limited-edition watches from Seiko as of late. Now the Japanese watchmaker is back with another cool limited edition watch with the launch of the Seiko Presage Classic x Tradman’s Bonsai (HCC009J).

The latest watch, part of the Presage Classic series, is a collaboration with Tradman's Bonsai, a Japanese creative collective with a mission to make the bonsai art accessible to a wider audience. The overall design takes cues from a Japanese black pine bonsai illuminated by moonlight, with a textured green dial meant to evoke the character of an aging pine tree.

The pine-needle green (matsuba-iro) hue used on the dial is a traditional Japanese color associated with good fortune. And it pairs up quite beautifully with the gold-tone case and bracelet and gold accents on the hands and hour markers. While the watch comes on a five-link gold-plated stainless steel band, Seiko also offers an additional black calfskin leather strap featuring an embossed sanko-matsu pine needle motif on its underside.

Powering the HCC009J from inside is Seiko’s 6R51 automatic movement with support for manual winding and a stop-seconds function and up to 72 hours of power reserve. The accuracy is rated at +25 to -15 seconds per day. The watch also features a dual-curved sapphire crystal with an antireflective coating and 10-bar water resistance.

The see-through case back is engraved with “LIMITED EDITION” and an individual serial number. The watch is limited to 2,000 pieces worldwide, with 600 units reserved for Japan, and will ship in a special presentation box with an accompanying watch cloth and a leather strap.

Pricing & Availability

The Seiko Presage Classic x Tradman’s Bonsai is set to launch globally sometime in September. The pricing is on the premium side, surpassing even the Presage Tomioka Silk edition, with the watch set to retail at £1,250 in the UK, ¥176,000 in Japan, AUD $2,100 in Australia, and €1,400 in Europe. The US pricing is yet to be confirmed, though the watch is already listed on Seiko's US storefront.
