Seiko launches two new Presage Japanese Garden watches with striking skeletonized dials

Seiko recently unveiled a stunning limited-edition Presage watch with a beautiful textured green dial inspired by Japanese black pine bonsai. If you liked that aesthetic, you'll definitely like the look of Seiko’s new Presage watches.

Seiko has added two new models to its Presage Japanese Garden collection, both featuring the signature open-heart design that defines this intriguing line. The HCB007 and HCB008 feature partially skeletonized dials that let you peek into the mechanical movement inside. The left side of the dial exposes the movement while the right half is finished with a finely textured herringbone pattern. 

The HCB007 is the more eye-catching of the two, featuring a warm rose-gold-tone stainless steel case with a deep green dial and matching rose-gold-tone Roman numeral markers. Meanwhile, the HCB008 utilizes a predominantly black dial, with yellow-gold markers and hands creating a nice contrasting look. Both watches feature leaf-style hour and minute hands and are secured by an embossed cowhide leather strap. 

The open-heart section makes for a great sight. You can see layers of gears, bridges, screws, and the balance assembly beneath the dial. A thin seconds hand sweeps across the aperture, while the surrounding minute track and small applied dots keep the time readable without taking attention away from the mechanical display.

Flip the watch over, and a see-through screw-down caseback offers another view of Seiko’s automatic movement. Speaking of the movement, it’s Seiko’s 4R71 automatic calibre, a reliable workhorse designed specifically for open-heart designs, boasting 24 jewels, a 41-hour power reserve, hacking seconds (the seconds hand stops when setting time), and support for manual winding. 

Pricing & Availability

Seiko's new Presage Japanese Garden HCB007 and HCB008 watches are scheduled to launch in Japan later in September. The rose-gold/green HCB007 is priced at ¥101,200 (~$633), while the black-dialed HCB008 is cheaper at ¥91,300 (~$571). It's not immediately clear if these are JDM (Japan Domestic Market) watches or if they will see an international release.
