Seiko adds a new Edo purple 145th anniversary edition to its recently revived Rotocall line
Seiko's newest 145th anniversary limited-edition is the fourth colorway in a Rotocall lineup that's been back in production for almost a year. Seiko first reissued the 1982 digital watch in October 2025 in three colorways (yellow/black, red/black, and grey/blue), followed by a US launch in April 2026 and a monochrome gold-and-silver pair in July. The Seiko Selection HFL001P1, in Edo purple for the anniversary, is the line's latest and most expensive entry to date.
The main feature is unchanged from the original: an eight-sided rotary bezel that cycles through functions like the chronograph, alarm, and dual time by turning it; you don't have to press through a menu with buttons. Watch press has consistently tied the original A829 to NASA's Space Shuttle program, since its bezel interface was more suited to gloved use.
The case is stainless-steel with a hard coating, 37 mm across and 10.6 mm thick, with a Hardlex crystal and 10 bar water resistance — but this is no surprise, since specs are almost always consistent with earlier reissues. What's new is that Seiko has paired a black case and bracelet with a purple aluminium bezel, the "Edo purple" tone running through the rest of this 145th anniversary wave, plus gold accents on the dial and clasp.
Inside is the same quartz caliber A824 as the rest of the line, rated to ±20 seconds a month with roughly three years of battery life, driving a 100-hour chronograph in 1/100-second increments, a single alarm, a 100-minute timer, dual-time display, and a full auto-calendar good until December 31, 2074.
Seiko is limiting the HFL001P1 to only 4,000 pieces, releasing in Japan on October 9 at 83,600 yen (~$530) including tax — slightly above the roughly 71,500 to 77,000 yen the earlier reissues launched at. International pricing has not been announced as of writing.
