New affordable Casio watches with Seiko-style translucent dials reportedly on the way

Seiko's dial

The new Casio MTP-E740 watches look to have a translucent dial, similar to the Seiko 5 Sports "Time Sonar" series (pictured).
Casio's upcoming MTP-E740 analog watch series has leaked in five distinct dial colors. They have a stainless-steel build, day/date display, and a translucent dial; however pricing is still unconfirmed ahead of an expected August release.

Casio's analog lineup is reportedly getting a new addition. The MTP-E740 is a new, still unannounced series of three-hand watches, and it has now turned up across five colorways at Vietnamese retailer G-Shock Hai Phong. The listing plus the product description reveals key specs and design ahead of what's presumably an official August reveal.

Each model uses a stainless steel case and bracelet, paired with a day and date window that supports both English and Spanish. The dial looks to be translucent (although zooming too much isn't possible because of the low image quality of listings). Dial options cover a wide range: a bold orange (MTP-E740-4A), teal green (MTP-E740-3A), two shades of blue (MTP-E740-2A1 and MTP-E740-2A2), and a brown finish (MTP-E740-1A). Every version shares the same case, sized at 45.0 x 39.8 x 8.7 mm and weighing 103 grams.

Functionally, the MTP-E740 keeps things very simple. There's no chronograph or alarm, just a single day/date complication and standard three-hand timekeeping, rated for accuracy within ±20 seconds per month. Casio lists water resistance at 5 bar (50 meters), which is enough for splashes and rain but not swimming or diving. Battery life is estimated at roughly three years on an SR920SW cell.

Pricing for the series hasn't surfaced yet. Packaging on the listing has an "AUG" tag, which matches the same expected launch window seen on other recent Casio leaks (1) (2) (3). As always with unofficial retailer listings ahead of launch, final specs and availability should be treated as provisional until Casio confirms them directly.

Buy the Casio MTP-1302D-7A1 on Amazon.
