Verdict: AMD version of Lenovo ThinkPad E14 Gen 7 is worse
Lenovo has improved the AMD version of the Lenovo ThinkPad E14 Gen 7 compared to the earlier iterations, thanks to the use of Zen 4 CPUs. However, as much of an improvement as Zen 4 is in this case, Lenovo still does not use actually current CPUs in the AMD version. Worse, Lenovo does not offer the same high-quality 2.8K IPS screen option available in the Intel E14 Gen 7. The WUXGA screen used in the AMD E14 is a cheap, below average panel.
Overall, the Lenovo ThinkPad E14 Gen 7 is a great office laptop for students and small companies, with a very nice keyboard, a good port selection and great performance, as well as usable battery life. However, in the end, it is worse than its own Intel-equipped twin with Arrow Lake H. Intel Arrow Lake H is the more modern and efficient platform when compared with AMD Hawk Point. Lenovo unfortunately does not offer more modern Krackan Point or Strix Point processors in the E series.

AMD CPU options have been a constant in the ThinkPad E series since its very conception as the ThinkPad Edge in 2010. The latest generation Lenovo ThinkPad E14 Gen 7 continues this legacy - we already tested the Intel version of the E14 Gen 7, the AMD model follows now. In any case, the Lenovo ThinkPad E14 G7 is Lenovo's entry level ThinkPad laptop, mainly meant for small business and students.
Specifications: Zen 4 for the first time in ThinkPad E
Case and Connectivity: ThinkPad looks, ThinkBook construction
The Lenovo ThinkPad E series is the entry level series. Lenovo gives it the basic ThinkPad look, but the construction is more like a Lenovo ThinkBook. Quality is still good, there are no obvious flaws in the construction, and the stability is good. Also, the screen does not wobble, though the hinges that allow for a 170-degree opening angle are too stiff to enable a one-handed opening.
Besides the blacked out logos and the camera bump, the biggest news for this year's Lenovo ThinkPad E14 Gen 7 AMD is the presence of USB4 - a first for the AMD-based ThinkPad E series laptops.

Input Devices: Keyboard is king for ThinkPads
Of the input devices, the keyboard of the Lenovo ThinkPad E14 Gen 7 AMD is clearly the crown jewel. Coupled with the well-thought-out layout, using this two stage backlit keyboard for work is a joy. The plastic clickpad trackpad is not as great, although usable - alternatively, the ThinkPad TrackPoint is an excellent option to steer the mouse pointer.
Display: Schwachpunkt des ThinkPad E14 Gen 7 AMD
Lenovo sells the E14 G7 AMD with three matte 14-inch 16:10 WUXGA IPS screens (1,920 x 1,200) - the 2.8K (2,880 x 1,800) 120 Hz option available on the Intel variant is missing here. Screen options are as follows:
- 300 cd/m², 45 % NTSC
- 300 cd/m², 45 % NTSC, Multitouch
- 300 cd/m², 100 % sRGB
The average screen brightness of 297 cd/m² is almost up to the spec that Lenovo promises. It is still one of the darker screen panels in our comparison table, and clearly a cheap screen option, exemplified by the horrible color gamut coverage. This is not a screen you want to use for photo editing. It is mostly suitable for office tasks and web-browsing.

Processor
The AMD Ryzen 7 250 is a CPU based on the "Hawk Point" refresh series. It has eight Zen 4 CPU cores (3.3 to 5.1 GHz), with a typical TDP of 28 W. Our CPU list can be used to compare this processor with other CPUs.
Compared with the older ThinkPad E14 Gen 6 AMD, which was based on Zen3+, the CPU performance of the ThinkPad E14 G7 AMD is markedly improved. However, the Intel Arrow Lake H version of the E14 Gen 7 is clearly faster.
In battery mode, the CPU performance is slightly lower (minus six percent).

Storage Devices
Lenovo uses a Samsung M.2 2242 SSD in the ThinkPad E14 Gen 7 AMD, which has a capacity of 1 TB and is connected via the NVMe PCIe 4.0 standard. It is a fast SSD, although not as fast as the SK Hynix drive in the E14 Gen 7 Intel.
There is a second, free M.2 2280 slot, which can be used to upgrade the ThinkPad laptop with more storage.

System Noise
The Lenovo laptop runs louder than the older ThinkPad E14 Gen 6 AMD, but considerably less loud than the competitors from Acer and Asus. When idling, the fan is always off, and even under load, the fan noise stays below the important 40 dB(a) mark.
We could not detect any coil whine.

Notebookcheck Rating
Lenovo has made a good affordable office laptop with the ThinkPad E14 Gen 7 AMD. However, it is a worse choice when compared to the Intel variant of the E14 Gen 7, due to that model's more efficient CPU and available high-quality screen option.
