8BitDo's Gears of War-themed Wireless Charging Dock for Xbox controllers comes with a wireless charging battery pack

When the Forza Horizon 6 Xbox Wireless Controller launched in April, 8BitDo announced a matching charging dock that is compatible with Xbox Series S|X controllers. Now that Xbox has unveiled the new Gears of War: E-Day Limited Edition Controllers, 8BitDo has also released an Xbox-licensed Gears of War-themed charging dock for Xbox controllers. Not only does it have a matching design, it is actually more advanced than the Forza Horizon 6 charging dock.

Officially called the 8BitDo Ultimate Charging Dock for Xbox Controllers - Gears of War: E-Day, the accessory has the same 3D molded design of the Gears of War: E-Day limited edition Xbox wireless controller. Just as it did with the Forza Horizon 6 charging dock, 8BitDo ships the new charging dock with a battery pack, but not just an ordinary one.

Unlike 8BitDo's Forza Horizon charging dock which has charging pins, the Ultimate Charging Dock is a wireless charger in the true sense, as there are no charging pins like you have on 8BitDo's other charging docks. The only other 8BitDo controllers with true wireless charging docks that don't have pins are the Ultimate 3 and Ultimate 3E wireless Xbox controllers. 

So how do you charge your Xbox controller with the charging dock? You simply replace the battery in your controller with the one 8BitDo ships with the Ultimate Charging Dock, as the battery pack has a wireless charging coil that lets the dock charge it. 8BitDo says you can even use your controller's original battery door.

That isn't the case with the Forza Horizon 6 Charging Dock which has a special battery door with contact plates that press against the contact plates of the included battery pack. This way, when you place the controller on the dock, the pins on the dock press against the plates on the battery door which presses against the plates on the battery, thus charging it.

The 8BitDo Ultimate Charging Dock for Xbox Controllers - Gears of War: E-Day doesn't have a compartment for small accessories as is the case with the Forza Horizon 6 version. This is because that space has been occupied by vents for heat dissipation during charging. 

The dock also features over voltage protection, over current protection, over heating protection, and over-charge protection. It features an adjustable LED indicator, a 1,000mAh semi-solid-state lithium battery, and a USB cable.
