Hogwarts Legacy 2 is finally official – and fans know exactly what they want

Given the commercial success of Hogwarts Legacy (PS5 version currently $24 on Amazon), a sequel to the open-world game already seemed highly likely. Now, there is finally confirmation. Warner Bros. Discovery did not announce it with a trailer or traditional press release, however, but instead mentioned it almost in passing in its latest letter to shareholders. In the document, the company explicitly lists a “second installment of Hogwarts Legacy” as part of its upcoming games pipeline.

There are virtually no further details. It is not known what Warner Bros. has planned for the Hogwarts Legacy sequel, when it will be released or whether it will actually be called Hogwarts Legacy 2. That has not stopped fans from discussing the game, though. In a recent Reddit thread, Potterheads are mainly talking about what they expect from the next installment of the open-world game set in the Harry Potter universe.

Fans want more RPG depth, more classes, Quidditch and more

The first game was very well received by fans – though less because of its sophisticated RPG mechanics and more because of its immersive atmosphere, the detailed recreation of Hogwarts and, not least, its entertaining combat system. As a result, many fans want the sequel to offer greater RPG depth. Meaningful choices and noticeable consequences are among the most common requests – particularly when it comes to using the Unforgivable Curses.

For example, a morality or reputation system could make teachers and fellow students react to the use of Avada Kedavra or Crucio, allow decisions to alter the story and make different endings possible. Another frequently mentioned request is a more believable student life. Fans would like the classes and professor assignments already featured in the first game to be significantly expanded and more deeply integrated into everyday school life. Many would also welcome greater significance for house selection, house points and relationships with fellow students.

Quidditch is also high on the wish list. The wizarding sport was completely absent from the first game. According to speculation, this may have been because the standalone game Quidditch Champions was already in development at the time. However, this connection was never officially confirmed. Given the game's modest commercial success, a sequel to Quidditch Champions seems questionable. It is therefore entirely conceivable that Warner Bros. could integrate the wizarding sport directly into the second Hogwarts Legacy this time around.

Beyond that, fans are hoping for a stronger main story, greater enemy variety, proper companions, fewer repetitive collectibles and an overhaul of the frequent use of Revelio.
