Although the 2025 HP Omen 17 has been available for some time, we only recently had the chance to review it and test how it compares to last year's 2024 version. The latest model utilizes the same chassis design as before for the second year in a row and so the updates are largely related to the upgraded AMD CPU (Zen 4 to Zen 5) and Nvidia GPU (Ada Lovelace to Blackwell) instead.
As mentioned in our review of the HP system, the CPU and GPU would stabilize at just ~70 C each when running Cyberpunk 2077 to be cooler than average for a gaming laptop. Other 17.3-inch laptops like the Asus TUF Gaming A17 can run as warm as 85 C in comparison and it's not uncommon for thinner and lighter systems to reach similar plateaus as well.
One might expect fan noise to be louder than usual to compensate for the lower core temperatures but that does not appear to be the case, either. The fans peak at around 50 dB(A) when gaming which is noticeably quieter than the Lenovo LOQ 17 or MSI Crosshair A17 each with the same RTX 5070 GPU. The HP sports larger fans than the MSI and more heat pipes than the Lenovo for an overall stronger cooling solution. It's still a loud machine, of course, but at least it's on the quieter end relatively speaking.
