The latest HP 17t is now shipping to be an even cheaper alternative to the already low-end Pavilion series. Originally starting at just under $1000, the model now starts for significantly less at $420 for the base Core Ultra 5 225U configuration up to just $770 when fully configured with the Core Ultra 7 255U and 1080p display. HP has not indicated for how long the sale will last. The 17t series is notable for having some of the least expensive 17.3-inch 16:9 laptops in the market.
Note that the optional touchscreen functionality comes with some caveats. Unlike on most other laptops, adding touchscreen to the 17t limits users to the 1600 x 900 resolution panel whereas non-touch users can upgrade to the more standard 1920 x 1080 panel. We highly recommend configuring with the latter as 900p for such a large 17.3-inch screen size can appear grainy and dark.
Users who want both touchscreen and native 1080p will have to move one step up to the costlier OmniBook 7 or X series. In other words, HP appears to be intentionally limiting the touchscreen options for the 17t in order to encourage buyers to consider the more expensive OmniBook series.
According to our review of the 17t, the model offers decent battery life and performance due to its modern Arrow Lake-U CPU. It nonetheless suffers from poor graphics performance and a limited color range which are common drawbacks to most budget laptops.
