While 1 kg laptops aren't too uncommon, most tend to sacrifice performance, battery life, and chassis rigidity in order to cut as much weight as possible. The recently released HP OmniBook 7 Aero 13 bucks the trend with its 10+ hours of WLAN battery life, stronger base than most competitors, and Ryzen AI 7 processor to be one of the fastest 13-inch subnotebooks in the market for its weight category.
In our recent review of the laptop, we noted that while the Ryzen AI 7 350 offers only average graphics performance, the CPU is nonetheless faster and more efficient than on many other 13-inch models including the MSI Summit E13 convertible or Asus ZenBook S13. The Zen 5 CPU also allows the system to squeeze more battery life from the relatively small 43 Wh battery pack.
To reach the 1 kg weight target, however, cutbacks had to be made elsewhere oo the system. Most notably, the model does not offer any OLED, touchscreen, HDR, or high refresh rate display options all of which have become commonplace on most other 13-inch and 14-inch laptops. Such luxuries demand additional weight and power and so HP likely made the conscious decision to not offer them in the first place to preserve battery life.
The OmniBook 7 Aero 13 features a long list of other advantages and disadvantages all related to its low weight. We recommend checking out our full review here for more information.
