The HP OmniBook 7 Aero is a little marvel of a laptop. At 2.2 pounds with a beautiful white all-metal design, I loved using it, and I loved picking it up and moving it around. It stayed cool and quiet, too. Unfortunately, HP’s decision to include a small battery—possibly to keep the weight down —feels like a compromise that impairs the usability of this machine. I loved this laptop the first time I touched it, but I winced when I saw the battery spec: 43 Watt-hours is just too low for this AMD chip. This number used to be fine but, in a post-Lunar Lake and post-Qualcomm Snapdragon X world, this is low. If you’ll never be far from an outlet and you want more multithreaded CPU performance than Intel’s Lunar Lake can deliver, this might be the ideal laptop for you.

I rather enjoyed my time with the HP OmniBook 7 Aero more than I expected. It has enough power to keep up with my average workday and sufficient battery life to last around 10-12 hours on a single charge. The only major drawbacks to the OmniBook 7 Aero are its dull, lifeless display and expensive upgrades. However, it's a great deal if you can get it on sale or if you're willing to opt for the Ryzen AI 5 340 configuration. If you need a laptop with a highly accurate display, the Asus Zenbook S 14's OLED display panel makes it a significantly better option that gets roughly the same amount of battery life and similar performance. Meanwhile, if you need to stay on a tight budget, the HP OmniBook 5 is a far better deal. But if you're looking for a powerful, lightweight laptop to commute with, the featherweight OmniBook 7 Aero is hard to beat.

The OmniBook 7 Aero 13 is an almost ideal subnotebook for constant travelers who want to carry as light as possible without sacrificing too much in terms of performance or quality. The AMD Zen 5 CPU in particular is excellent considering the size and weight of the system.

Listen, no one device is going to hit every single need or want of every user. This is true for the HP OmniBook 7 Aero. I think there is an audience that is looking for something as portable as this laptop and is willing to give up a few things, or at least some things don’t matter as much as the portability of the laptop. Here are my key takeaways, both good and bad, of this ultraportable laptop. Overall, the HP OmniBook 7 Aero has its pros and cons. It’s not going to tick every box off your list, but it may tick more than you think. It’s well worth considering if you’re looking for a very light, ultraportable. The HP OmniBook 7 Aero weighs only 2.2 lbs. That’s lighter than the MacBook Air 13, which clocks in at 2.7 lbs.

HP: Founded in 1939, the US company is a major server and printer manufacturer and one of the leading IT companies in the world. Until 2015, the company was called Hewlett-Packard Company. After a split, the computer division was renamed HP Inc.
In 2023, HP had an approximate market share of 22% of global PC sales, making it number 2 after Lenovo.
Modern games should be playable with these graphics cards at low settings and resolutions. Casual gamers may be happy with these cards.
AMD Radeon 860M: A fairly powerful RDNA 3.5 architecture iGPU that debuted in early 2025 and a direct successor to the Radeon 760M. Its 8 CUs/WGPs (512 unified shaders) run at up to 3 GHz. DX12 Ultimate, ray tracing, AI image generation and other modern features are all supported here, as are many popular video codecs including first and foremost AVC, HEVC, VP9 and AV1. Its gaming performance is good enough for playing 2024 games in low graphics settings.
Intel Graphics 4-Core iGPU (Arrow Lake): Integrated graphics card based on the Xe LPG architecture (similar to the dedicated Arc GPUs, but with a focus on efficiency). Provides 4 Xe cores (64 Xe vector engines) and 4 ray tracing units.
Intel Arc 140V: A pretty fast integrated graphics adapter that higher-end Intel Lunar Lake family processors employ. This is a direct successor to the Arc 8; it can drive three SUHD 4320p monitors simultaneously via HDMI 2.1, eDP 1.5 and DP 2.1. With the 140V, all 2023 and 2024 games are playable at 1080p on low graphics settings.

AMD Strix / Gorgon Point:
Ryzen AI 7 350: A relatively powerful Krackan Point family processor that was introduced in early 2025. The APU integrates 8 CPU cores (4 Zen 5 cores with up to 5 GHz and 4 Zen 5c cores with up to 3.5 GHz).
Intel Arrow Lake:
Ultra 5 225U: High-end mobile processor based on the Meteor Lake architecture. Offers 2 performance cores with up to 4.8 GHz (incl. SMT) and 8+2 efficiency cores with up to 3.8 GHz and can therefore process 14 threads simultaneously. Similar to the Core Ultra 5 135U, however, the Compute-Tile is manufactured in the new Intel 3 process and offers higher clocked CPU cores.
Intel Lunar Lake:
Core Ultra 7 256V: An upper mid-range Lunar Lake family processor. It sports 4 new Skymont E-cores and 4 new Lion Cove P-cores running at up to 3.7 GHz and 4.8 GHz respectively, along with the new Arc 140V iGPU and 16 GB of on-package LPDDR5x-8533 RAM. It essentially matches the Core Ultra 7 165U and Core i7-1360P in multi-thread performance and it eats up to 37 W when under short-term workloads.

14.00:
14 inch display size represents a middle ground between the small subnotebook formats and the screens of the standard 15 inch laptops.
The reason for the popularity of mid-sized displays is that this size is reasonably easy on the eyes, provides good resolutions with usable detail sizes, yet does not consume too much power and the devices can still be reasonably compact.
In the past, 14-inch devices were very rare, but now they are the standard for laptops after the 15-inchers.
16.00:
This range for display formats was and is a rarity. It is larger than the general standard of 15 inches, but not yet in the range of large workstations. One usually has higher screen resolutions available, but portability suffers from that.
» To find out how fine a display is, see our DPI List.
