iPhone Flip: Apple's first foldable could be about as big as Galaxy Z Flip or Motorola Razr rivals
Rumours about Apple releasing a foldable have been rumbling along for years at this point. Until recently, there were suggestions that Apple's dip into this category would be a foldable iPad akin to the ThinkPad X1 Fold, rather than a more conventional foldable smartphone.
More recent reports claim that this theory was wide of the mark. Instead, Apple has reportedly been developing a clamshell foldable similar to devices like the Galaxy Z Flip6 and Razr 50 Ultra (curr. $799.99 on Amazon).
According to a new report, Apple is set to finalise a 'final key supplier' for display components by spring at the latest, with late February until early April windows mentioned. This does not mean that the so-called iPhone Flip will be ready any time soon, though. As it stands, Apple is alleged to be targeting a 2026 or 2027 release, with late 2025 mooted as an outside chance.
The same report adds that Apple has been seeking a supplier who can deliver foldable panels with improved durability and less noticeable creases than conventional clamshell foldables. With that being said, the first foldable iPhone may retain current industry standards in some regards that could culminate in a 6.7~6.9-inch internal display size diagonally when unfolded. Apple's debut foldable is not expected to replace an existing product in its iPhone line-up at this stage, though.
