Apple is not expected to deliver its first foldable for few years yet, which could arrive around the same size as current Galaxy Z Flip and Motorola Razr clamshells. In the meantime, Samsung is said to be pressing ahead with the Galaxy Z Flip7 as its seventh generation Galaxy Z Flip release.
According to new reports, Samsung will begin mass producing the Galaxy Z Flip7 in May alongside at least the Galaxy Z Fold7. Although the Galaxy Z Flip7 is anticipated to price match its predecessor (curr. $799.99 on Amazon), significant hardware changes could be on the horizon. For instance, a new hinge structure should improve durability while reducing friction when opening and closing the device.
The Galaxy Z Flip7 could also be the first in the series to adopt Colour Filter on Encapsulation (CoE) technology, which has been present on Galaxy Z Fold releases from 2021 onwards. While the device may only match its predecessor's 2,600-nit peak luminosity, CoE should ensure higher full-panel brightness without an associated rise in power consumption.
The Galaxy Z Flip6 successor is anticipated to officially launch this summer, potentially with a cheaper Galaxy Z Flip FE and Samsung's first tri-fold in tow. The Galaxy Z Flip7 is said to serve as a showcase for One UI 7.1 too, just like the Galaxy Z Flip6 and One UI 6.1 last year. With Google scheduling stable Android 16 builds for Q2 2025, it remains to be seen whether Samsung will stick with Android 15 for its interim One UI 7 update, though.
