Xiaomi: New 10 kg washing machine is affordable and feaures smart home connectivity

At the beginning of this year, Xiaomi also took the plunge in Europe —at least when it comes to product size and weight. Specifically, the manufacturer now offers not only a fridge-freezer combination but also a washer-dryer. The Mijia 10kg front-load washing machine, which is only a washing machine, is currently available exclusively in China and aims to compete with a low price and smart features. Whether this affordable model will also come to the US or Europe remains unclear. Direct import is, of course, unrealistic for such a large appliance.

The washing machine has a capacity of 10 kilograms, meaning even large loads should be easy to handle. It uses a drum with a diameter of 525 millimeters. Drum size also affects performance and efficiency, as the laundry has more space to move. The stated washing performance is 1.25. This figure appears to be standardized for the Chinese market (or based on a reference machine there) and is therefore not very meaningful for customers in Europe.

A total of 24 wash programs are available. The door seal is said to have a special coating to reduce bacterial growth. The washing machine is smart to a certain extent and can send notifications via a corresponding app. OTA updates are also technically possible.
