Xiaomi's new washer-dryer combo with electrolysis may help reduce detergent use

Xiaomi already offers washer-dryers on the global market and is now adding another model to its product lineup. Equipped with electrolysis technology, the new Mijia Washing Machine Pro Supreme Edition can break down water into its chemical components – oxygen and hydrogen – though only a small fraction of water used in a wash cycle is converted. The resulting active oxygen is said to enhance cleaning performance. While the process isn’t new by any means, electrolysis does offer several advantages: It can clean laundry using just electrical energy and water already present in a cycle. In most cases, however, this electrolysis function is unlikely to fully replace detergent.
The Mijia Washing Machine Pro Supreme Edition is a washer-dryer combo, eliminating the need to transfer wet laundry from one appliance to another. Xiaomi claims a capacity of 13 kg for washing and 9 kg for drying – relatively large for this type of machine. A total of 31 washing programs are available, including a quick-wash cycle that promises thorough cleaning within 36 minutes. Drying is handled by a heat pump, which improves energy efficiency at the expense of speed. Perhaps unsurprisingly, the Xiaomi washer-dryer combo is a smart home device capable of integrating into a smart home system, allowing control via a smartphone app and support for voice commands. The Mijia Washing Machine Pro Supreme Edition is currently listed in China at around $515 / €443 after currency conversion.
