When The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion debuted in 2006, the open-world RPG became an instant classic. Not surprisingly, fans have anticipated a follow-up to Oblivion or the immensely popular Skyrim. After Microsoft acquired Activision Blizzard, documents revealed plans for an Oblivion remaster. Several more recent reports pointed to a The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion remake release date in June 2025. Now, insider NateTheHate is hinting that the game could arrive even sooner.
When asked again about the The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion remake, NateTheHate gave an encouraging update. The leaker, who has predicted major Microsoft and Nintendo news, revealed that the game was far along in development. In fact, the action RPG could be released as soon as May. That would suggest an official Bethesda announcement at any time.
The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion wasn't the first open-world console or PC RPG. Still, players now take the freedom the title permits for granted, with journeys not confined by a linear narrative.
In January, MP1st revealed some details about a remake from a Virtuos employee. To modernize the game's visuals, Bethesda will utilize Unreal Engine 5. However, the effort won't just be a visual reskin, as gameplay mechanics like stamina, blocking, and archery will be refined. The HUD in Oblivion will also receive attention to make monitoring a character's status easier.
Ironically, an official The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion remake may not be the only title to emerge in the near future. Skyblivion is a community-driven project that recreates the RPG using the Skyrim game engine. Skyblivion is also updating key gameplay elements while introducing Legacy Boss Fights.
Xbox RPG fans expressed disappointment with the recent delay in a Fable reboot. Even so, despite a compelling storyline, like many modern games, it may struggle to match the depth of The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion.
