Another day, another Oblivion remaster leak. This time, the culprit is an Xbox support bot on X. In a chat with a user, the bot claimed that the long-rumored remaster of The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion is set to launch on April 21.
That date lines up with previous leaks suggesting the game would drop before May. At this point, the Oblivion remaster might be the worst-kept secret in gaming, with rumors and leaks dating back to 2023. It all started when a Reddit user, claiming to be a former Virtuos Games employee, outed the project.
Virtuos, a Singapore-based studio, has a history of internal leaks. Their involvement in the Metal Gear Solid 3 remake was exposed by an employee on LinkedIn. Similarly, early screenshots of the Oblivion remaster were discovered and shared on Reddit after a user went digging through the developer’s website.
Industry insider Jeff Grub has also chimed in and confirmed that Bethesda will reveal the remaster between April 21 and April 28.
As the leaks continue to pile up, the imminent release of the Oblivion remaster seems all but certain. Still, it’s best to keep expectations in check—Microsoft and Bethesda have yet to officially confirm the remaster, let alone a firm release date.
One possible outcome is that Microsoft might adjust the release date in a bid to salvage what’s left of the surprise. Either way, we will find out next week.
Meanwhile, a group of dedicated and passionate fans working on an Oblivion remake in the Skyrim engine have lent their support to the official remake. The fan remake started in 2012 and has been slowly crawling to the finish line, with an expected release scheduled for this year.
