Facing intense competition, OLED gaming monitor manufacturers look for any perk to differentiate themselves. The 32-inch Samsung Odyssey G8 doubles as a compact smart TV, but its 240Hz refresh rate is also ideal for gaming. At its lowest Amazon sale price to date, the display becomes a more tempting value.

The Odyssey G80SD is now at $729.10, reduced by over $500 from its list price. Previous deals in this range were only available at Samsung’s store with EDU/EPP discounts.

The Odyssey G8 minimizes the need for extra gear

Despite having integrated 10-watt speakers, the G8 remains a reasonably thin 32-inch OLED monitor. A solid stand prevents excessive wobbling while allowing for ergonomic adjustments. To enhance gaming setups, there is a ring of RGB lighting on its rear panel.

The Samsung OLED gaming monitor predictably produces sharp 4K images. Its processor employs AI upscaling to boost the definition of lower-resolution content. That becomes critical for smart TV apps, where not all movies, shows, and games stream at 3840 x 2160.

A high contrast ratio ensures that even the finest details are visible in dim scenes. HDR support elevates brighter images, but the Rtings review notes that brightness trails that of some competitors. Vivid hues aren’t quite as impactful, which leads to another drawback. Although the display’s matte coating rejects reflections, the monitor may struggle in well-lit rooms.

With a maximum 240Hz refresh rate and G-Sync compatibility, the Odyssey G8 is ready for competitive gaming. Input lag is nearly imperceptible, and there is no obvious smearing seen in many IPS or Mini LED alternatives.

A smart monitor with some annoyances

The apps native to the Titan OS are joined by the Samsung Gaming Hub. Players can access Xbox Cloud Gaming or Nvidia GeForce Now without a PC or console. Yet, the added capabilities of the G80SD can be both a blessing and a curse. Owners find switching inputs is sometimes clunky, even with a remote control.

The Samsung OLED monitor on sale at Amazon also has some shortcomings with productivity. No KVM switch is present, and the lack of a USB-C port with power delivery is a disappointment. Although it excels as a media hub, buyers may consider the ROG Swift PG32UCDM as a fallback option. The Asus monitor has more generous connectivity, but has yet to match the $729.10 deal price of the Odyssey G8.
