Samsung has quietly introduced a new OLED gaming monitor in various countries ahead of a presumed global rollout later this year. To recap, the company launched the Odyssey OLED G60SF (curr. $819 on Amazon) with a 500 Hz and 1440p display that spans 27-inches diagonally. This time, the company has released the Odyssey OLED G50SF across China, Taiwan and New Zealand.
For context, the 500 Hz and 1440p panel that underpins the Odyssey OLED G60SF is now thought to sit between Samsung Display's Gen 3 and Gen 4 panels, despite being unveiled alongside the latter in January. On the face of it, the 180 Hz QD-OLED panel inside the Odyssey OLED G50SF is new too. However, we suspect that this is actually a revised Gen 3 QD-OLED panel that Samsung Display already offers in 240 Hz and 360 Hz variants.
Officially, Samsung has not confirmed as much yet. Nonetheless, all other signs point to the Odyssey OLED G50SF being the first monitor to use this further restricted QD-OLED panel. To that end, the monitor also delivers a 1440p native resolution, 0.03 ms GtG response times and image tearing mitigation via AMD FreeSync Premium Pro and Nvidia G-Sync technologies. Also, the Odyssey OLED G50SF peaks at 200 nits in SDR mode with 99% DCI-P3 colour space coverage.
Underlying its budget credentials, the monitor contains just a 3.5 mm jack with single DisplayPort 1.2 and HDMI 2.0 ports. Currently, the Odyssey OLED G50SF can be picked up in New Zealand for NZD 899 (~$517) in China for CNY 2,649 (~$372) and in Taiwan for TWS 13,900 (~$455). While Samsung has not indicated when the Odyssey OLED G50SF will be available elsewhere, we suspect the monitor will receive a global release before the end of the year based on past performance.
