The Xiaomi Self-Install Smart Lock has been announced for the global market. This new smart home product is designed to turn an ordinary door lock into a smart lock. It comes in two parts: a mechanical locking device and an accompanying keypad.
There are multiple ways to unlock a door fitted with the Xiaomi Self-Install Smart Lock. You can set a permanent or temporary password using the keypad, or use the integrated fingerprint scanner which is said to offer a 99.3% identification rate. You can also remotely unlock the door through the brand’s smartphone app, with voice commands or with a back-up physical key. The product supports Wi-Fi and Bluetooth, with users able to use the app to remotely check on the lock’s status, or receive alerts when certain family members get home, or if the lock is tampered with.
Another feature of the Self-Install Smart Lock is automatic locking, though the company notes that a door sensor is required for this functionality; typically, the door is locked with a single tap on the button. Xiaomi suggests that its smart lock is quick to install, with no drilling required, and it is compatible with both key and knob locking mechanisms. With support for the Xiaomi ecosystem, as well as the Matter protocol, this device can be linked with a wide range of smart home devices.
Xiaomi has yet to announce the global launch date of the Self-Install Smart Lock. If it is released in Europe, it will compete with models like the SwitchBot Lock Ultra (curr. €189.99 at Amazon DE).
