The so-called Xiaomi Mijia Desktop Water Purifier Ice-Making Edition is a new water filter with various additional features. The device can also dispense hot water with a temperature between 40 and 95°C (104 to 203°F). Users can adjust the temperature in increments of 1°C. The heating capacity is 2,100 watts, and hot water is available in just three seconds, which indicates that it utilizes an immediate water heater. However, the gadget does not require a permanent water supply and uses tanks instead.
In addition to heating up water, the water purifier can also cool water below the freezing point. To be more precise, it can produce five ice cubes with 6 grams each in just ten minutes. Regular ice cubes weigh 10 grams, but users must wait 15 minutes for those. A compressor provides the cooling and emits up to 35dB of noise, while a container allows users to store 40 to 50 ice cubes. UV sterilization is also available for these ice cubes, as ice cubes can be tricky from a food hygiene perspective. Needless to say, we cannot assess the effectiveness of this UV sterilization feature.
With that said, the actual water filtration occurs in six stages and combines activated carbon filtration with reverse osmosis. In China, the multifunctional water filter is available for the equivalent of roughly $630. There are no details on a global launch date thus far. Water filters with a tankless heater and reverse osmosis can also be found on Amazon US.
