MSI has now quietly released another QD-OLED gaming monitor in the US, over six months after its debut. To recap, the company introduced the MAG 272UP X24 in China back in April. Priced at CNY 5,499 (~$772), the MAG 272UP X24 contains the same panel technology as the MPG 272URX but at a lower price point.
In other words, the MAG 272UP X24 utilises a Gen 4 QD-OLED panel produced by Samsung. Combining a 4K resolution and a 240 Hz refresh rate, the MAG 272UP X24 also supports 48~240 Hz variable refresh rate technology via VESA Adaptive-Sync and delivers 0.03 ms GtG response times. Moreover, the monitor boasts 250 nits SDR, 450 nits HDR (10% APL) and 1,000 nits in small areas (3% APL) in HDR mode too.
However, the MAG 272UP X24 diverges from the MPG 272URX by dropping from DisplayPort 2.1 to DisplayPort 1.4 connectivity and to a USB Type-C port that can only supply 15 W Power Delivery rather than 98 W. On top of that, the MAG 272UP X24 has now USB Type-A or Type-B ports to speak of. In short, the MAG 272UP X24 lacks the versatility that the MPG 272URX offers while matching the image quality it provides.
Accordingly, the MAG 272UP X24 is a fair bit cheaper than the MPG 272URX. For context, the MPG 272URX carries a $1,099.99 MSRP, although even MSI regularly discounts the monitor to $999.99. By contrast, the MAG 272UP X24 has started out at $799.99. Currently, the monitor is available from MSI directly and Amazon US.
