TCL 25G64: 25-inch mini-LED monitor with 300Hz is very affordable

The new TCL 25G64 is now available for about €210 in Europe and can be ordered at Amazon Germany and other online shops. The monitor is not yet listed at US retailers. Despite this affordable price, the 25G64 sports a mini-LED backlight instead of the usual edge-lit setup.

However, the mini-LED backlight alone does not guarantee a high contrast ratio, because the number of dimming zones also matters. With only 180 of such zones, the backlight can’t be controlled as accurately as with more expensive monitors of this type. That being said, TCL specifies a typical contrast ratio of 1000:1 and a peak brightness of 600 nits, and the monitor has the according DisplayHDR 600 certification.

TCL monitor with technical limitations

The monitor is further equipped with a 24.5-inch panel that has to make some compromises. The resolution is only 1920 x 1080 pixels, which does make it easier to offer high refresh rates. To be more precise, the TCL 25G64 runs at a native 300Hz and supports AMD FreeSync Premium as well as Nvidia G-Sync.

The grey-to-grey response time is 1ms, and the monitor covers 99% of the sRGB color space and has a color accuracy of DeltaE < 2 with factory settings. Unfortunately, prospective buyers will have to live without a KVM switch or USB ports. The only connectivity options on this monitor are HDMI 2.1 and DisplayPort 1.4. Last but not least, the included stand can be pivoted and adjusted in height.
