Rumours have been bubbling under for a while about Apple launching new external monitors. As it stands though, the company still offers the Studio Display and Pro Display XDR in 27-inch and 32-inch sizes, respectively (curr. $4,999 on Amazon). Now though, early information about a potential new alternative has emerged.
Spotted in the latest macOS Tahoe 26 beta, the two references are said to mention a new Pro Display XDR rather than a revised Studio Display. Specifically, Public Beta 3 mentions the ‘Pro Display XDR Camera’ and ‘Pro Display XDR Desk View Camera’. In other words, Apple seems to be developing a second-generation Pro Display XDR monitor with a built-in camera.
Added to that, the terminology ‘Desk View’ indicates that the next Pro Display XDR monitor will be capable of recording you and a top-down shot simultaneously. Thus, the monitor will also support Center Stage, a subject-centring feature that requires an ultra-wide-angle camera to operate. While a release date remains unknown for now, Mark Gurman has previously suggested that Apple will release upgraded Studio Display and Pro Display XDR monitors.
