With mass production of the Apple M5 already underway since spring and the chip set to make its debut in the next few weeks as part of the next-generation iPad Pro and Apple Vision Pro, Apple is now reportedly preparing to mass-produce the first Macs based on the new ARM processor. According to the latest information from Bloomberg, production of the 14-inch and 16-inch MacBook Pro, codenamed J714 and J716, as well as the 13-inch and 15-inch MacBook Air, codenamed J813 and J815, is imminent.
The notebooks are expected to be officially unveiled either in the fourth quarter of 2025 or the first quarter of 2026, meaning by March 2026 at the latest. Neither the MacBook Air nor the MacBook Pro are expected to receive major upgrades; apart from the new ARM processors, only minor improvements at best are expected. Only with the upgrade to the Apple M6 is the MacBook Pro expected to receive a brand-new design with an OLED touchscreen and a potentially thinner and lighter chassis. As for the MacBook Air, a completely redesigned model with an OLED display may not hit the market until 2029.
Interestingly, Apple is also reportedly preparing for mass production of two new monitors, model numbers J427 and J527. These are said to be successors to the Apple Studio Display, which will continue to be offered exclusively with a screen diagonal of 27 inches. While the Apple Studio Display already offers a high pixel density with a 5K IPS panel, Apple may equip the next-generation monitor with a faster 120 Hz panel or mini-LED backlighting for higher brightness.
