Previous rumors have claimed that Apple will launch the successor to the Apple Studio Display in the first half of 2026. MacRumors has now identified an Apple monitor with model number A3350, which has received a regulatory certification for the Chinese market. The certification only reveals that it is an LCD-based monitor, so Apple is not switching to an OLED panel, as expected.
The current Apple Studio Display (from $1,409 on Amazon) was officially unveiled back in March 2022 alongside the first-generation Mac Studio. Considering its relatively high price, the specifications of this monitor are no longer competitive. While Apple uses a 27-inch IPS panel with a high resolution of 5120 x 2880 pixels, this panel is limited to a refresh rate of only 60Hz, while its peak brightness of 600 nits lags far behind modern mini-LED monitors. The selection of ports is also no longer quite up to date, since the Studio Display only sports a Thunderbolt 3 port and a built-in USB-C hub with 10Gbps.
According to a code leak, at least three significant upgrades are in store for the next-generation Apple Studio Display. First, Apple is expected to double the refresh rate to 120Hz and introduce ProMotion support, which provides a variable refresh rate that can be dynamically adjusted in order to fit the current screen content. Second, the monitor could support HDR, which points to a mini-LED backlight with higher peak brightness. Third, the Apple A13 is set to be replaced by the significantly faster Apple A19 chipset.
