Apple Center Stage-style camera may come to Android soon with 5× resolution

The iPhone 17 lineup currently offers a standout feature in the smartphone market: its 18 MP Center Stage camera with a square image sensor. This setup allows the front-facing camera to be used in either landscape or portrait orientation for selfies or group shots. Center Stage can even shift dynamically to keep moving subjects in frame.
So far, no Android flagship has offered a comparable feature, but that could change in the near future. Digital Chat Station – a typically reliable China-based leaker – recently hinted on Weibo that at least one manufacturer is evaluating a Center Stage-style front camera equipped with a square sensor, with a subtle clue pointing to Oppo as the company in question. Interestingly, the current test device is said to feature a 100 MP sensor, offering a significantly higher resolution than Apple’s 18 MP sensor.
It’s still unknown whether the upcoming generation of smartphones, set to debut this fall, will feature this Center Stage-like front camera. In Oppo’s case, the launch lineup is expected to include the Find X10 and Find X10 Pro. Another possibility is that the camera may not arrive until the Find X11 series or the Find X10 Ultra next year. The feature set will likely mirror what Apple offers, suggesting Oppo may once again be borrowing from the competition. At this stage, there is no word about other Android OEMs, such as Samsung, planning to adopt a comparable front camera.
