Sony Xperia Announcement event runtime spotted on eve of Xperia 1 VIII launch

It is no secret that Sony is announcing a new smartphone this week. In fact, the company shared a new teaser video earlier today. While the video is on the cryptic side, Sony has positioned its Xperia Product Announcement as delivering a 'seismic shift' in one form or another.
Nonetheless, it seems that this year's Xperia announcement could be one of Sony's shortest announcement videos yet. Last year, the company spent around 28 minutes detailing the Xperia 1 VII. Likewise, Xperia 1 IV, Xperia 1 V and Xperia 1 VI announcement videos all ran to longer than 20 minutes. In part, this was because Sony launched the Xperia 10 IV, Xperia 10 V and Xperia 10 VI simultaneously.
This time, Kunkoku Japan has noticed that Sony's next Xperia Product Announcement is scheduled to run for a mere 4:57 minutes. At this stage, it is unclear why this new video is comparatively short. Nonetheless, the Xperia 1 VIII is expected to introduce various upgrades to the Xperia 1 line, including the Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 chipset to rival modern flagships like the Xiaomi 17 Ultra, OnePlus 15 and the Galaxy S26 Ultra (curr. $1,099 on Amazon).
