Sony's latest teaser positions Xperia 1 VIII camera upgrades before launch day
Sony will be making its next Xperia Product Announcement on May 13. Specifically, the company will be kicking off its product event at 02:00 UTC. By the looks of things, this year's Xperia Product Announcement will be a comparatively short affair.
Yesterday, Sony informed fans that they should prepare themselves 'for a seismic shift'. Ultimately, the company did not elaborate further. However, the content of its 21-second video appeared to focus on the rear-facing cameras of the rumoured Xperia 1 VIII. Now, Sony has shared a fresh teaser on its social media channels.
Embedded below, the 15-second clip summarises the two teasers it had published previously. Additionally, Sony leads with the tagline 'a new trinity has awoken' in relation to its 'next one'. Hence, it seems that multiple camera upgrades could be in play for the next Xperia 1. For context, Sony only upgraded its ultra-wide-angle experience last year between the Xperia 1 VI and Xperia 1 VII.
Currently, the Xperia 1 VII is expected to arrive with a 48 MP and 1/1.56-inch telephoto camera. In the meantime, the smartphone's design has already leaked courtesy of Roland Quandt. Moreover, Amazon UK indicated last week that the Xperia 1 VIII would be shipping in late June 2026 with a complimentary pair of WH-1000XM6 headphones (curr. $458 on Amazon).
