Galaxy S27 tipped to arrive with China-made displays

Rumours about the Galaxy S27 have started emerging online, even though the phone isn’t due to surface until much later. Among other things, it will get a much-needed camera upgrade and an overall redesign of the camera chassis. However, not all parts of the Galaxy S27 are due for an upgrade. If a new report from ZDNet Korea is accurate, its display might be sourced from China.
Apparently, Samsung might use BOE panels for some Galaxy S27 variants. The base version is the most likely recipient because Samsung doesn’t want to move away from its in-house displays entirely. Additionally, a cheaper BOE panel will help offset at least some of the cost from increased memory prices, allowing Samsung to price the base Galaxy S27 somewhat competitively. Cheaper BOE panels might also result in lower price quotes from Samsung Display.
That will, however, come at the cost of varying user experiences. Galaxy S27 owners will potentially get a different OLED panel and SoC compared to the Ultra model. While BOE panels can compete toe-to-toe with Samsung, anyone with a keen eye can easily tell the difference. Furthermore, it could affect the smoothness of animations and likes, further exacerbating the divide between Galaxy S27 variants.
As always, it is far too early to make predictions based on one report from the supply chain. However, the report might hold some water because Samsung is no stranger to sourcing panels from BOE. The Galaxy A57 is slated to be one of the first mainstream Galaxy phones to use a TCL CSOT display, and it is entirely possible that Samsung could look to major players like BOE for its display needs.
