Apple macOS 27 to polish up Liquid Glass, introduce new features

With the release of macOS 26, Apple has modernized the design language of its desktop operating system and adapted it even more closely to the iPhone operating system. On laptops such as the MacBook Air ($949 on Amazon), however, "Liquid Glass" does not look quite as stylish as on an iPhone, for example. This is not least due to the fact that Liquid Glass on a Mac cannot benefit from a high-contrast OLED display, nor does it have access to a motion sensor that can subtly adjust the lighting effects when the device is moved.
According to a new report from Bloomberg Apple's software engineers were also unable to implement the design exactly as the designers had intended. With the update to macOS 27, the company is to make improvements, particularly in terms of transparency and shadows, which should improve the readability of elements such as sidebars or quick settings in the Control Center. Apple is said to "clean up" the design and also take this opportunity to make numerous optimizations that should improve performance and eliminate bugs.
In addition to these design and performance improvements, the update to macOS 27 will primarily introduce new AI features, led by a brand new Siri app. In the future, the voice assistant will be much more reminiscent of AI chatbots such as ChatGPT. Apple's Safari web browser will be able to automatically sort tabs into groups. macOS 27 is expected to be released at WWDC 2026 in June, with the release expected in September or October.
