Confidential Pixel video leaks: "Gemini Intelligence" and "Luminous Design" - Android 17's answer to Apple Intelligence and Liquid Glass?

Google might be borrowing a direct cue from Apple’s branding playbook.
A newly leaked video has surfaced showing what looks like a Pixel phone running an unreleased animation/version of Google's AI, now reportedly branded as "Gemini Intelligence." Meanwhile, a leak says Google's answer to Apple's Liquid Glass might be called "Luminious Design".
While the Pixel-maker has spent the last year establishing Gemini as its primary AI identity, this potential rebranding suggests a shift toward a more comprehensive umbrella term for the Pixel's Android 17.
Google taking a page from Apple's playbook: "Gemini Intelligence" might be coming to Android 17 and Pixel - but why?
However, the name choice is hard to ignore. By adopting the "Intelligence" bit, Google is stepping onto the iPhone’s Apple Intelligence territory, which was first announced in 2024. However, Apple's journey with its AI suite has been pretty shaky (to say the least).
Cupertino faced significant backlash for delaying core AI features, including the revamped Siri, past the launch of the iPhone 16. Just days ago, this culminated in a $250 million settlement in the US to resolve a class-action lawsuit. The case alleged that Apple misled consumers by marketing AI capabilities that weren't actually available at the time of purchase.
Thanks to all of that, it’d be a curious strategic move for Google to align its AI branding so closely with one of Apple’s biggest software and PR failures. Whether "Gemini Intelligence" is a simple UI tweak or a fundamental shift in how the Pixel handles on-device AI remains to be seen.
"Luminous Design" might be Google's answer to Apple's "Liquid Glass" on Android and Pixel
In related news, the "Gemini Intelligence" leak arrives in the midst of an active social media campaign by Google execs. Android President Sameer Samat and other key figures have been busy reassuring the X community that Android 17 will maintain its own visual identity. Specifically, they have shut down rumors that Google would adopt Apple's "Liquid Glass" iOS design.
However, reputable tipster Ice Universe responded to Samat’s post with the vague message you can see below. It’s unclear if this is a typo or a sarcastic hint that Android 17 might end up looking like iOS 26 after all. However, it’s worth noting that the latest Gemini app update includes a major visual overhaul, allegedly called "Luminous Design", that’s reminiscent of Apple’s Liquid Glass transparency and blur elements.
Either way, we won’t have to wait long for official confirmation on "Gemini Intelligence" and Android 17. Google has confirmed that The Android Show will return for its second year on May 12, 2026. This event serves as the primary appetizer for Google I/O 2026, which is officially scheduled to kick off on May 19, 2026.
