The Apple iPhone could soon become much more interesting for photography enthusiasts, as Apple is apparently planning far-reaching software adjustments aimed specifically at photographers and videographers. iOS 27 is said to offer significantly more options, while the user interface of the camera app can reportedly be highly personalized.

The camera app that comes with the Apple iPhone offers comparatively few features - full manual control over exposure and focus is only available on the iPhone via third-party apps, which often cost extra money or display ads. With the update to iOS 27, the iPhone 17 ($770 on Amazon) and older iPhones could also receive a much more flexible camera app.

This is now indicated by a new report from Bloomberg, according to which the user interface of the camera app in iOS 27 can be highly personalized. Users will be able to choose which buttons and options are displayed and where they are placed on the screen. These controls will work in a similar way to widgets and can be selected from a list of options and placed freely, similar to the Control Center. These widgets will be divided into the categories "Basic", "Manual" and "Settings".

The app is said to receive new options for displaying different grid overlays and a digital level. Users will be able to have more manual control over both the depth of field and the exposure than before. In addition to the already available photo and video mode, Apple is also set to introduce a Siri mode with iOS 27, which will allow access to AI features right in the camera app. Aside from the camera app, Apple is said to revise many other areas of the system with iOS 27.

For example, the keyboard is to receive a new animation when it appears from the bottom of the screen, the navigation bar of some apps is to be revised and Siri will reportedly be displayed as part of the Dynamic Island instead of at the bottom of the screen. According to Bloomberg, the new AI version of Siri will be integrated directly into iOS search, while Apple will introduce a dedicated Siri app in which conversations with the chatbot can be saved.
