Official Xperia 1 VIII images show global colours and key features before launch day
Sony is expected to fully unveil the Xperia 1 VIII later this week. Currently, the company has not admitted as much. However, it has confirmed that the 'Next ONE is coming' on May 13, with Sony elaborating that this relates to an 'Xperia Product Announcement'.
Earlier today, the company shared its second teaser video with the tagline promising a 'seismic shift' on Wednesday. Moreover, the Xperia Announcement event runtime was spotted ahead of time. Now, Roland Quandt has weighed in by posting a series of Xperia 1 VIII pictures on Bluesky. Incidentally, the images are missing the gold variant that was present in a prior leak.
Embedded below, the pictures are said to be official and without any AI enhancements. While Quandt has not provided a source for the three images, his reputation for providing accurate leaks precedes him at this point. Also, the design shown matches what surfaced on Weibo a few days ago. Hence, we suspect these accurately represent what retail Xperia 1 VIII units look like.
Arguably, the new Xperia 1 is the spitting image of its predecessor from the front, thanks to its flat 19.5:9 display surrounded by thick top and bottom bezels. Sony will not be embracing the notch or a punch-hole camera either, despite recent rumours indicating it would. Meanwhile, a dedicated camera shutter button returns, as does a capacitive fingerprint scanner that doubles as a power button.
Sony's branding moves to the camera housing this year too, which has been overhauled for the Xperia 1 VIII. Sony will continue to use Zeiss T* lens coatings as well. Reportedly, the Xperia 1 VIII will come bundled with the WH-1000XM6 in some markets (curr. $458 on Amazon). Although Sony is set to announce a new flagship in May, a recent retailer leak suggests that shipments may not begin until the end of June.
