Leak: Apple iPhone gets more useful wallet app with iOS 27

Apple's Wallet app is currently mainly used to make contactless payments with credit and debit cards. The app also supports event tickets, boarding passes and access cards, for example for a gym or public transport, but this only works if the corresponding platform officially supports the Wallet app.
This will change with the update to iOS 27, as a report from Bloomberg reveals. In future, it will be possible to scan any QR code with the camera of the iPhone 17 ($800 on Amazon) via the plus symbol in the app and add it as a card to the Wallet app, similar to Google Wallet on Android. However, Apple will give users more freedom in the design of these cards - colors, background images, text fields and layouts can be customized so that each pass is visually different from other passes.
Three templates will be available at launch - an orange pass is the standard option, a blue pass is intended for memberships such as gym memberships, while a purple pass is used for tickets, for example for the cinema or a concert. In addition to the improvements to the Wallet app, Apple is also planning performance optimizations. Otherwise, there are new features primarily with regard to Apple Intelligence, as Siri is to receive its own app and access to a large language model, while the Photos app three new AI features are to be added.
