Huawei Pura X Max next to an iPhone Ultra/Fold dummy.
Huawei’s Pura X Max is set to face stiff competition from the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold8 Wide and Apple’s iPhone Ultra. Now, a video comparing iPhone Ultra dummy units to the Pura X Max reveals a nearly identical footprint for Apple's first foldable iPhone. But how heavy is it?
A new side-by-side comparison of an iPhone Ultra/Fold dummy unit and the brand new Huawei Pura X Max is here, highlighting just how similar Apple’s upcoming foldable might be to Huawei’s.
As you can see in the video comparing the designs, and according to the latest leaked schematics, the new "Wide" foldables from Huawei, Apple and Samsung seem to be pretty similar, though the fractional differences might affect ergonomics.
Huawei Pura X Max (unfolded): 120.0 x 166.5 x 5.2 mm, 229g
iPhone Ultra (unfolded): 120.59 x 167.59 x 4.7 mm - leaked/rumored specs
Samsung Galaxy Z Fold8 Wide (unfolded): 123.9 x 164.4 x 4.3 mm - leaked/rumored specs
Apple’s foldable iPhone Ultra looks remarkably similar to the Huawei Pura X Max, shows early video comparison; weight will be a deciding factor in the "Wide" foldable war
The slight variations in these numbers will hardly have a tangible impact on daily use. The Huawei Pura X Max is the "thickest" of the trio at 5.2 mm, while the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold8 Wide is the thinnest and widest of the bunch.
We haven't heard much about the weight of Apple and Samsung’s new wide foldables, which will greatly affect how they feel when you’re actually using them. For reference, the Huawei Pura X Max weighs 229g, which makes it lighter than the iPhone 17 Pro Max (233g). Meanwhile, the standard Galaxy Z Fold7 weighs only 215g.

The foldable iPhone Ultra's dimensions suggest Apple will be positioning this as a true iPad mini alternative that fits in a pocket. However, it remains to be seen how Apple will manage the weight distribution across such a wide, thin frame.
While Huawei has the first-mover advantage this month, the impending arrival of the Samsung and Apple "Wide" models suggests that the era of narrow, remote-control-shaped foldables might be coming to an end. Despite that, Samsung is also launching a regular Galaxy Z Fold8 model.
