Leak from reliable source has revealed that the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold8 will feature a significantly smaller front camera cutout on its cover display. Shifting from the 3.7mm hole on the Galaxy Z Fold7 to a sleek 2.5mm diameter, the Z Fold8 utilizes new display technology to maximize screen real estate. This update arrives as Samsung prepares for its summer 2026 Unpacked event.

Renowned leaker Ice Universe has revealed a significant design refinement for Samsung's 2026 foldable flagship. According to the latest renders, the Galaxy Z Fold8 will feature a dramatically smaller front camera cutout compared to its predecessor, the  Galaxy Z Fold7.

The current Galaxy Z Fold7 utilizes a 3.7mm diameter punch-hole for its cover display selfie camera. However, for the Z Fold8, Samsung has reportedly managed to shrink this down to just 2.5mm. This 32% reduction in size is attributed to a "new technology" in display integration, allowing for a slightly more immersive viewing experience on the external screen without sacrificing camera quality.

Samsung Galaxy Z Fold8: Tiny 2.5mm punch-hole uses "new tech"; no hope for under-display camera on cover screen

While the leak focuses on the cover screen, the implications for the massive 8-inch internal display are even more intriguing. If Samsung applies this same 2.5mm technology to the inner panel, the visual "interruption" would be more or less negligible. For now, it remains unconfirmed whether the internal camera will also shrink.

Samsung continues to improve its Under-Display Camera (UDC) for the internal screen, but this leak suggests the company is still prioritizing the clarity of a traditional punch-hole for the cover display, albeit with a much smaller footprint.

The Galaxy Z Fold8 is expected to debut in July or August 2026 alongside Samsung’s rumored "Galaxy Z Fold8 Wide" variant, which was just leaked with full size and dimensions.
