No "Fold Wide": New Galaxy Z Fold 8 Ultra to take on Apple's foldable iPhone Ultra, reveals leak
A fresh new leak suggests Samsung might have a surprise for the launch of the Galaxy Z Fold 8 series, which has to do with the names of the next-gen foldables.
According to reports, the South Korean giant intends to introduce two distinct models, the Galaxy Z Fold 8 and the Galaxy Z Fold 8 Ultra. That’s right, apparently there’s no "Galaxy Z Fold 8 Wide" (at least as far as the name goes). Instead, the model currently referred to in leaks as the "Galaxy Z Fold 8 Wide" is expected to be marketed simply as the Galaxy Z Fold 8. However, this phone is still expected to feature a wider, shorter form factor, just as rumored before.
On the other hand, the Galaxy Z Fold 8 Ultra is reportedly the direct successor to the current Galaxy Z Fold 7. Leaked specs for the Ultra model include a 5,000 mAh battery, 45W wired charging, and an upgraded 50MP ultrawide camera.

Samsung's foldable Galaxy lineup for 2026, according to the latest info:
- Galaxy Z Fold 8 - Samsung's wider foldable (intended to take on the iPhone Ultra)
- Galaxy Z Fold 8 Ultra - the direct successor to the Galaxy Z Fold 7 (taller and narrower)
- Galaxy Z Flip 8 - the upgrade to the Galaxy Z Flip 7
Despite the "Ultra" designation, current rumors indicate that this foldable will not feature some of the high-end specifications associated with the Galaxy S26 Ultra, such as S Pen support, 60W wired charging, or the proprietary Privacy Display technology. That said, the leaked naming scheme for the Fold 8 series isn't official and should be taken with a grain of salt.
The Galaxy Z Fold 8 lineup, alongside the Galaxy Z Flip 8, is anticipated to be unveiled at Samsung’s next Unpacked event, said to take place on July 22. In related news, Apple is expected to launch the foldable iPhone Ultra in September with a wider design, similar to that of the Fold 8 and not the Fold 8 Ultra.
