Samsung could switch things up with Galaxy Z Flip 8 to cut costs

The next generation of Samsung foldables is expected to arrive next month with a few changes to the lineup and naming convention. Among them is the Galaxy Z Flip 8, the smallest of the trio, which is now expected to receive the same dual-chip treatment as the bigger Galaxy Z Fold 8 Ultra.
As per the latest information from credible leaker Lanzuk (yeux1122) on the Naver blog, the Galaxy Z Flip 8 will have two versions, one with the company’s in-house Exynos SoC and the other with Qualcomm’s Snapdragon chip. For reference, the Galaxy Z Flip 7 (buy on Amazon) was the first in the long line of Flip phones to switch to an Exynos chip, and it was exclusively offered with that chip. Now, it looks like Samsung will have regional variants for the Galaxy Z Flip 8.
This strategy is typical of the Galaxy Z Fold series and Galaxy S series flagships. Turns out, it’s more expensive for Samsung to use its own Exynos SoC in phones than Qualcomm’s Snapdragon chip. Therefore, given the current market conditions and companies looking to cut production costs wherever possible, it doesn’t seem economically viable for Samsung to have only Exynos variants for the Galaxy Z Flip 8.
While the leaker hasn’t mentioned the exact SoC model, it is expected to be the Exynos 2600. This isn’t the first time this SoC has been tipped for the upcoming foldable.
Typically, Samsung ships the Snapdragon variants in the US, Canada, China, and Japan, while the Exynos variants are sold in Europe, India, and its home country. Whether it will be the same case for the Galaxy Z Flip 8 remains to be seen.
