Detailed design, size leak: Galaxy Z Fold 8 Wide is far thinner, less wide than Huawei Pura X Max

The foldable market is shifting toward wider aspect ratios, and new data from veteran leaker Ice Universe has provided an "exclusive" look at how the upcoming Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 8 Wide stacks up against the recently launched Huawei Pura X Max, which became the first wide-style foldable on the market.
The comparison highlights the dramatic design departure for Samsung, traditionally known for its "tall and narrow" cover displays. The Galaxy Z Fold 8 Wide is leaning into a much broader footprint.

Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 8 Wide vs Huawei Pura X Max - display, body dimensions, screen aspect ratio
According to the leaked specs, the Samsung device aims to be remarkably thin, measuring just 4.3 mm (unfolded) and 9.8 mm (folded). In contrast, the Huawei Pura X Max is larger and thicker.
- Width (unfolded): 161.4 mm (vs. 166.5 mm on Huawei)
- Width (folded): 82.2 mm (vs. 85.0 mm on Huawei)
- Height: 123.9 mm (vs. 120.0 mm on Huawei)
- Thickness (unfolded): 4.3 mm (vs. 5.2 mm on Huawei)
- Thickness (folded): 9.8 mm (vs. 11.2 mm on Huawei)
- Inner display aspect ratio: 4:3 (vs. 4.24:3 on Huawei)
- Outer display aspect ratio: 4.7:3 (vs. 4.4:3 on Huawei)
Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 8 Wide to be less wide, far thinner than Huawei Pura X Max
The display ratios further emphasize the different philosophies - Samsung is targeting a classic 4:3 inner ratio and a 4.7:3 outer ratio, while Huawei pushes even wider with a 4.2:3 inner and 4.4:3 outer display.
If these specs hold true, Samsung’s "Wide" foldable could offer ergonomics closer to a traditional phone (if that’s even possible) with the thinness of a high-end tablet, posing a serious threat to Huawei’s dominance in the large-scale foldable segment.
