Just 2 mm taller than iPhone 4: Foldable iPhone design unit stars in latest video with new 5.2 mm thickness

YouTuber Unbox Therapy has got his hands on steel dummy units that have been doing the rounds in recent weeks. Like Max Tech before him, Unbox Therapy has also broken out his callipers to offer more insights into Apple's foldable ahead of its official launch.
For instance, Unbox Therapy demonstrates that Apple's rear camera system adds almost 50% in thickness. Specifically, the YouTuber reiterates that the so-called iPhone Ultra measures around 11 mm in its closed state. However, taking its dual camera system into account adds over 5.5 mm for a total of 16.57 mm.
Unfortunately, this large camera system makes the iPhone Ultra dummy unit wobble an awful lot on a flat surface, arguably more than the Galaxy Z Fold7 before it that we reviewed last August (curr. $1,675 on Amazon). As the photos above show, Unbox Therapy also measures a thickness of 5.24 mm at the device's thinnest point. While these two halves total 10.48 mm, foldables like the Pixel 10 Pro Fold and Galaxy Z Fold7 contain thin inner display bezels.
Based on the video below, the inner bezels on the iPhone Ultra will be about 0.27 mm thick on each side. Reportedly, the iPhone Ultra is slightly taller than previously reported at 117 mm. Nonetheless, this height would make the foldable a mere 2 mm taller than the iPhone 4. Currently, Apple is expected to launch the iPhone Ultra in September 2026 during the company's annual iPhone event.
