Apple finalizes LTPO+ display with two advantages for iPhone 18 Pro (Max)

According to a new report from The Elec based on sources in the display supply chain, Apple is in the process of approving the OLED panels for the iPhone 18 Pro and iPhone 18 Pro Max so that Samsung Display and LG Display can begin mass production of these displays. The approval process should be completed before the end of May.
Although the Chinese panel manufacturer BOE now also supplies panels for the iPhone 17 Pro ($1,124 on Amazon), the company is said to be unable to keep up with the quality and production yield of Samsung Display and LG Display when it comes to manufacturing the improved panels for Apple's next-generation flagship smartphones. The Elec's sources confirm earlier rumors according to which the iPhone 18 Pro and iPhone 18 Pro Max will use advanced LTPO+ AMOLED panels for the first time. This has two main practical advantages for users.
Firstly, LTPO+ panels are more efficient in terms of power consumption, so the next-generation iPhones should have a longer battery life. Secondly, these panels are less susceptible to burn-in - although this is already not a widespread problem with the iPhone 17 Pro, it would further reduce the risk of visible image retention after prolonged use. LTPO+ also potentially enables more even illumination and color reproduction across the entire display. The Apple iPhone 18 series is expected to be officially launched in September.
